Relax and enjoy the company of colleagues as you explore, in a hands-on manner, a number of science activities relevant to the Queensland Science Syllabus for Years 1 to 10 and other syllabi.This workshop is designed to strengthen the understanding, of primary and middle school educators, of concepts in the Energy and Change strand of the new Queensland Science Syllabus for Years 1-10, and to provide participants with a wealth of associated classroom resources.
Topics include students' alternative conceptions, Newton's First, Second, and Third Laws, inertia and mass, pressure, friction, different types of energy, transfer of energy, and where, and in what way, science is lacking in movies (e.g., flashing bullets and problems with windows, The Matrix Reloaded and Pearl Harbour ). Heaps of demonstrations and experiments to share with your students.
The workshop is suitable for teachers adopting any curriculum approach, including Education Queensland's New Basics Project and associated Rich Tasks.
